Being a Trustee at Mediation Plus – by Kate Nash

Trustee Kate Nash

I have been a volunteer mediator for the service for some years doing neighbourhood, workplace and inter-generational mediation.

Being a trustee gives me a good overview of how the service operates from a different perspective. While being a trained mediator is not essential to be a trustee – my experience brings knowledge of the process to the Board and a good understanding of the services we provide.

We are lucky to have such an experienced and eclectic mix of trustees on the Board, who all bring wisdom and positivity to this excellent and thriving local charity.

The Board obviously oversees financial matters, but also many other aspects of the service including safeguarding, staffing, strategy and operations. We act as ‘critical friends’ to the CEO, offering support without ‘micromanaging’.

Strategy and forward thinking are essential in this current economic climate and the Board works closely with the CEO to make sure that all options are explored.

I thoroughly enjoy the stimulation that being on this Board brings me during my ‘third phase’ in life. It is such a positive experience to be able to give something back to the local community. I look forward to an exciting future for Mediation Plus.
