Celebrating Nicola’s British Empire Medal
Mediation Plus is delighted to share the news that Nicola Hawkins, the former Service Manager of Hastings and Rother Mediation Service (half of our merged service), recently received a British Empire Medal.
Nicola was named on the 2024 New Year’s Honours List for ‘Services to the Community’ and earlier this month, she was presented with the medal from the Lord-Lieutenant of East Sussex, on behalf of His Majesty the King, at Hastings Town Hall.
On receiving the award, Nicola said:
“I feel so honoured to have been awarded the British Empire Medal for Services to the Community, at an Investiture in East Sussex, along with two other recipients. I am so appreciative of all my colleagues (staff and volunteers) at Hastings and Rother Mediation Service who made it the best job in the world and it has been so wonderful to have been able to share the day with some of my family and former work colleagues”
Nicola retired in March 2022, having spent 26 years developing and leading the mediation service across Hastings and Rother from its inception. We all thank her for her passion and commitment to the service, and the wider Sussex Mediation Alliance, where she played a big role. Without Nicola’s dedication to mediation, the service would not be where it is today.
We were fortunate to see Nicola again last week, where she showed us her incredible medal (pictured). We hope you find the opportunity to wear this with pride, Nicola. A huge congratulations from us all!
